Scientific publication

What is MetroSea?

During my internship at the DMAD marine station, I have participated in the publication of one scientific paper for the 2021 IEEE international workshop on metrology for the sea. MetroSea serves as a forum for presenting recent advances in the field of measurement and instrumentation to be applied for the increasing of our knowledge for protecting and preserving the Sea.

Our paper “Bottlenose dolphins of Montenegro: Abundance Estimation and Residency Patterns” is a summary of the 4 years of research done at the station. It presents the dolphin population trend as well as residency pattern in the poorly studied waters of Montenegro. I contributed to the publication of the conference abstract by writing the abstract, introduction, conclusion as well as realizing the survey area map on qGIS. It was a very interesting exercise that put my scientific writing skills to the test. Summarizing 4 years of past study in a 4 pages document is not an easy task. Having the opportunity to publish is very important. It is a task I will have to do repeatedly in my future academic life and I am pleased to have been able to do it during this internship. By submitting this conference abstract to the MetroSea workshop, we allow our supervisor Aylin Akkaya to show the result of her research and inform the world of the precarious state of the Dolphin population in the Montenegrin water.
